I’ve already not failed out of kink bingo this time, as I‘ve covered the ‘at least one fanwork’ proviso, but I’d like to be very un-me like and get an actual bingo. Which leaves me with exposure/exhibitionism, wildcard, and bondage (wrist/ankle restraints) to fill before the 31st.

And no ideas! Well, for the wildcard thing there’s an Erlking/Harry/Bob fic that’s been languishing in my gdocs foreeeeeeeeeever and is a bit of a kinkfest, but I think it might take me too long to knock into shape.

Bondage? Nothing is jumping into my mind as wanting to be written. Erm. Erm. Hogwarts verse future fic? My vague mental map of that verse has Harry and John taking a gap year after they finish school and being pretty adventurous with their magic and sex lives. Not sure I could argue that as a standalone fic, but possibly. Or something with Kincaid, because I’m pretty sure Murphy ties him up but has to go through a series of restraints to find something he doesn’t just slip to show that he can.

Exposure/exhibitionism... should be easy, as Harry-is-an-exhibitionist is a fanon I endorse hard, and yet. I have nothing. ...Harry meets Thor or someone in a bar and they party in style? I’m always up for gratuitous Norse characters.

Ack. *hands*

I am a little late in bidding farewell to 2010 and hello to 2011, but if we begin years as we mean to go on, then late and disorganised is probably a fairly accurate start to 2011. 2010 was pretty good to me. I did fairly well at work, I’ve fallen in with a group of people whose company I find a hilarious joy, and I’ve enjoyed being myself with enthusiasm. Here’s to continuing in that vein.

In the fannish arena, I got a hell of a lot more active. At the start of 2010, I tripped over the Mentalist kink meme, worked up the nerve to post, and then discovered prompts were awesome. I picked up the Dresden Files, devoured the books, fell for Dresden/Marcone, devoured the fic, and then had fun writing my own. I learned to beta, and might be having a little bit too much fun doing so.

My minor victory for 2011 is that today I just finished the (very very rough) first draft of a Harry/Marcone genderswap fic whose tentative title is Don’t Blink, You Might Miss (I hate choosing titles so much). It currently clocks in at around 49000 words, which once upon a time might have brought me out in a panicky fit of what are you doing?! But now I just take a peek at [livejournal.com profile] lucia_tanaka 's word count and it seems a lot more manageable :-D DBYMM still needs a lot of work doing before it gets anywhere near a beta.

To make these musings post-worthy, here’s a Dresden/Marcone established-relationship drabble written while I was voice finding for their particular brand of contentious domesticity. Set up is that Harry is temporarily staying at Marcone’s and for reasons that don’t need exploring at this juncture, he’s brought Mister and Mouse:

More self indulgent witterings. So, I am writing something, and apparently it is long, and this is a first for me, as I don't usually have the patience/stamina/skill for this kind of writing.

Cut to save your flist from my ficcish musing )

So, in brief: LALALAHHHHHHH I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT I'M DOING.

p.s While I'm here, anyone know if there's a default font size for LJ posts? Because I keep copying over chunks of text from whatever I've been working on a post in without really thinking about the font, and it's made my LJ look kind of messy, with obvious jumps between font style and sizes between posts. I think it's Verdana I want to be using, but the point size escapes me. I suppose I can arbitrarily settle on a size for myself, but I like to know these things.

This post is me wittering on about my fic. About posting, writing, prompts, commenting, kink memes and kink bingo. Mostly Dresden Files with a pit stop for the Mentalist:

I hate posting fic. Not in a will people like this/will they comment kind of way, but in a copypasting/remember the headings/is this too long for the character limit/where do I put a chapter break/remember to link to all the chapters/have I done the cut-tag right/what the hell size font is this/oh crap tags kind of way. Essentially, it’s fiddly, and I’m a deeply lazy person with a fundamental objection to the kind of careful checking I need to do to make sure I don’t cock everything up. And sometimes I cock it up anyway :-D

I’ve been wondering if posting to the AO3 instead would solve some of this fussing (I’ve never tried it, but if it’s set up by fans specifically for the purpose of posting fic, it MUST be more user friendly). But I have a sneaking suspicion that people comment less there? (And I’m a shameless comment whore, regardless of content. Seriously, you can just be pointing out I’ve abused punctuation and I’ll light up.) I may be entirely misguided in that assumption though. But the kind of commenting I like, that can segue off topic into fannish squee about something completely irrelevant, I kind of feel I shouldn’t indulge in that there. Because it isn’t a blogging forum, it’s an archive for stories and feedback on those stories. I think. Perhaps people do use it in this way and I just haven’t hung out there enough to notice.

I shall continue in my pondering.

Ficcishness

My Redjohnloves you fic seems to actually be done on time. Which is a little, well, scary to be honest. I’m amused that I wrote for the prompt that I took one look at and thought “can’t do that”. Except I kept coming back to the idea. And poking it. And then somehow it got written.
