Life as a new driver

I am wondering if it's normal to reassure oneself by loudly singing the kind of advice that might be issued by a more experienced driver, if such a person were actually present in the passenger seat, instead of, well, a handbag.

Waiting at the lights to go around a roundabout where the lanes get a bit confusing… is it weird to belt out “FOLLOW THE LINE! FOLLOW THE LINE! FOLLOW THE LINE!” to the tune of Strangers in the Night?

Maybe it’s because cars have never been quiet places for me. Suddenly being the only person in the vehicle with no idea how to turn the radio on is a little unnerving.

In fic related news, I just hit thirty thousand words on the Dresden Files genderswap thingy… which is boggling and hilarious all at once. I really want to find out how it finishes and then go back and re-draft and find out if any of it is, in fact, any good. Interesting times!

The quietness thing of driving was an issue for me too. I now keep CDs in the car at all times because having music and having that sound calms me. Might be worth a shot. 8D

It's always scary when you break the 20K mark and are unsure if you like what you've written. Happens to me more and more often... I'm sure it's great tho!

Hi you don't know me but I read your Dresden fics on mafiabanter and loved them.

I got my license this summer and yes, It felt weird to be the only personn in the car. i'm a bit leery of turning the radio on though because I'm afraid it'll distract me too much, we have a manual and I kinda need to hear the engins.

Yeah, I'm still one of the "WHY IS IT REVVING SO MU... wrong gear," school of drivers.

I'm glad you liked the fic, thanks for saying hi!
