Yuletide Letter

Wow, Yuletide letters are hard! Fingers crossed I've remembered how to use the cut tag properly.
Dear Yuletide Author.
Firstly, you are awesome.
I’m new to Yuletide, and Yuletide letters, so here goes! In terms of what I read, primarily it’s slash, but I also enjoy het and gen, so don’t worry about pairings if you choose to include any. I’m happy reading explicit (even gratuitous!) sex, but I read a hell of a lot of stuff that doesn’t even mention it.
Stuff I’d prefer not to see? Any particularly explicit non-con, though averted non-con, mentions of non-con and depictions of dub-con are fine. And perhaps this may be an odd thing to warn you about, but maiming squicks me? Please don’t chop off anyone’s limbs or horribly scar them? (What can I say, I’m shallow and will never ever watch a Saw film). Violence generally is fine though.
I think, most of all, I just want you to enjoy yourself. If the prompts aren’t suiting you, then please, write me something you’d enjoy

Ax/Sage
I’d like to see the power dynamics explored between the boys, any way you see fit. Sage’s alpha male physicality against Ax’s charismatic once-and-future-king destined leader thing he’s got going for him. You want to show how that plays out in their sex life? Awesome. But not necessary for me to enjoy the fic if you aren’t comfortable with that. A tussle over whose turn it is to do laundry would make me equally happy. I’ll admit to a fondness for Sage gaining the upper hand. But if this idea doesn’t speak to you, please, run wild with anything. ANY fic for these books would make my Yuletide.
There is no fic in the world for these books, as far as I can tell. I love the references to Arthurian myth. Arthur, Lancelot and Guinevere totally could have held things together if they’d gone in for the threesome idea as Ax, Sage and Fiorinda do. My musical knowledge is dire, so I know there’s a whole other load of references I miss in these books. Even if you aren’t writing this fandom for me, and have no idea what I’m talking about, I’m going to pimp the author’s (ugly, ugly) website to you, where you can download the first three books free and legally: http://www.boldaslove.co.uk/

Patrick Jane
Ok, I like seeing Jane in physical danger. So, perhaps something along the lines of “Jane is abducted and annoys the hell out of his captors”, because he definitely would. Competent professional bad guys would be extra fun. Maybe he almost cons them into letting him go, but can’t quite manage it and has to trust his team to rescue him. I’d prefer Jane in peril but mostly in one piece at the end of the story.
I think my love for this fandom has roots in my adolescent obsession with Sherlock Holmes. That may be part of the reason I don’t really ship any couples in the show romantically, but I find their bonds as a team really interesting. Yes, I know Jane is an arrogant ass, but I love him anyway. I think the thrill of seeing him in physical danger comes because he’s so breathtakingly competent at everything else, but this just isn’t in his skill-set. And I like the way the show has inverted gender roles in this particular area, where we often see Jane turning to Lisbon for physical protection. Also, Jane is very pretty.
Sandman
Lucifer/Dream
I like these two interacting. It’s like an unstoppable force and an immovable object. Slash would make me happy, but if that’s not where the story takes you, no problem. I enjoy the idea of these two being terribly polite and civil with one another, with a lot of tension strung through the conversation.
I love the Sandman comics, their epic sprawling nature, their allusions to traditions that make me feel terribly smug and fascinated when I get the references, and terribly curious when I realise something is going over my head. I’m interested by the pride and the honour of these two characters, and their powers and responsibilities. With Lucifer, I’ve always been interested in different depictions of that character, and the fall from grace, (hence a liking for Milton, Blake and Pullman I guess). I’d prefer Lucifer post-fall, but that’s entirely your decision, as I bet awesome things can be written with him still in Heaven. I know all the Lucifer comics as well if you do too and are leaning in that direction. I prefer Dream as Morpheus, but again, your call. Uh, in case you were wondering, I have no particular religious beliefs, so I’m not going to get offended by wherever you run with this.
Temeraire
Laurence/Temeraire/Napoleon
I would enjoy a fic where Laurence is Napoleon’s prisoner, and suddenly becomes aware that Napoleon is rather ridiculously attracted to him. He cannot for the life of him understand why, and has no idea how to react. Take that where you will. Not a slasher? Then any fic where Laurence is taken prisoner, preferably as a result of doing something ridiculously honourable (again) would be awesome. Essentially, everyone is very embarrassed about the fact they’ve taken him prisoner, don’t know what do about it, and think Temeraire might eat them.
I try to explain these books to people to spread the love, but apparently saying “It’s the Napoleonic Wars! With Dragons!”, isn’t sufficiently conveying the awesomeness. It should. To be honest, my historic knowledge of this era is slim to none. I will not catch your historical inaccuracies (I like the BBCs Merlin and Robin Hood, which tells you everything). I just like the manners and everyone being terribly concerned with honour and the fact that the author has managed to sneak in kick ass women who fight alongside the men in a secretive fashion. Often period fiction has“good” characters who, as products of their time, hold to things we find morally abhorrent, which the creator either has to hand-wave or have the character hold anachronistic views. But Temeraire’s questioning nature shakes things up for Laurence, and he can’t be ideologically complacent. Uhm…this isn’t helping you with my prompt at all is it? I sort of have a narrative kink for baddies getting hold of the good guy, whether it’s “hijinks ensue” or “angst! tension!”.
Phew. Well, I hope that actually helped and isn’t, as I suspect, a deranged and confusing monologue ☺
