I'm gonna go down the Bible path. One of my Simons can totally be a Matthew.
Oh yeah, Beowulf, and the Dream of the Rood (which is really cool) and other stuff I'm rapidly forgetting.
Oddly, the first thing I fell across online was fandom. I used to hang out with a load of other kids on a message board about the "Redwall" books. I have one other fannish RL friend but I can't ever picture admitting to her that I like slash. But at least she knows what it *is*. Mind you, a surprising number of even non-fans do now. I have a vague notion that may be something to do with Harry Potter.
You pretty much just nailed what I'm trying to articulate with my characterisation of Guy. I also kind of desperately want to redeem him and keep telling myself that what he wants is *respect*, and if he ever really understood that respect isn't based on fear, he'd be fine. But, well, the show really isn't going to give me that after the S2 finale. *sigh*
